The meaning of life....and all that Christmas malarkey

The meaning of life....and all that Christmas malarkey

So Christmas is here. (I admit this is possibly the weakest start to any first post on any blog on any topic ever. But at least it’s true. Next time I’ll start with something sensational; “GOD EXISTS, SCIENCE PROVES”. That’ll get your attention.) The next week and a half will be filled with bitter disappointment, family arguments, self loathing, comfort eating, comfort drinking and the like. The usual Christmas shit. Luckily, one question has at last been resolved: The meaning of life.

Ok so this is a big one, it is up there with does God exist? In fact quite a lot of people seem to think it is the same thing., but ill leave that for the moment.

The Alpha Course (http://uk.alpha.org/meaning-of-life) has a running survey of the meaning of life, as voted for by you the esteemed and well informed public! Lucky little devils.

And based on the current scores, God is the meaning of life! No surprises there then. Oh…wait. No, god only got 12% of the votes. That’s strange.  So what accounts for the rest of it?

Love: 8%
Jesus: 6%
Family: 4%

No Love is a good answer, I admit that. And family is a fairly safe bet, although quite how it is the meaning of life leaves me stumped to some extent. I bet some of you wont be feeling it over the festive period though.

Jesus…6%.

6% of YOU think Jesus is the meaning of life.

So let’s break this down. The meaning of life. What gives your life meaning? Or…Why are we here, as life on this planet? Or…what is the purpose of life on this planet, especially (I assume) humans?

To be honest my answer, and the answer I gave on the Alpha Course poll was…the meaning of life is LIFE. Don’t over complicate things.

One last point, since when has 12%, 8%, 6% and 4% added up to 100%? I want to see what the rest of the answers were. If they are touting 12% thinking that God is the meaning of life as a big deal, I imagine the other 70% of votes were….less accommodating to their current paradigm.

Right enough of this.
Good-bye

p.s. one last thing, I will be attending an Alpha Course sometime over the next 3-4 weeks, so hopefully see 20% of you there!
