Clearly mothers don’t have any logic, which ironically is the only conclusion I seem to be able to draw from this article at momlogic.com (article here).
So the argument is about vaccinations, again, and autism being caused by vaccinations, AGAIN. For those of you living with Osama Bin Laden in a cave somewhere in northern Michigan in 1998 Dr. Wakefield published a paper in The Lancet (subsequently retracted when everyone realized how much sh*t it contained) claiming a possible link between the MMR vaccination and autism.
But there is plenty of information out there on that story, I am writing to rant about the article on momlogic.com
Essentially the article centers on the pro-vaccination stance of Amanda Peet (I have no idea who she is, but I like her already) who highlighted the responsibility of every parent to ensure their child gets vaccinated to stop the spread of disease.
Not only is it incredibly selfish to rely on other people vaccinating their kids, it is also dangerous, possibly not for the children who’s parents choose not to have them vaccinated, but for the children who CANNOT be vaccinated for one reason or another (underlying conditions, allergic reactions).
The fact that this mother, Holly Anne Peete is angry about the advice from A.Peet on vaccinations is annoying, but the way momlogic reported this is just pathetic, and dangerous.
“Now, the actress, whose 11-year-old son developed autism after receiving vaccinations when he was just two-and-a-half years old…”
This is simply wrong. Correlation does not equal causation, and claiming you are logical clearly doesn’t mean you actually follow through with it.
It gets worse.
“I'm really disappointed to hear people like Amanda Peet- who have never been affected by autism -- make public allegations like vaccinations don't cause autism”
Clearly the fact that Peet has never been affected by autism matters not the slightest little f*ck in the contest of this argument. To quote something factually true you do not need to have been intimately involved with it. This isn’t an allegation, the allegation is surely that vaccines CAUSE autism.
However, potentially the funniest bit of this entire diatribe is:
“I know exactly what she is trying to do and that's to instill fear…”
No, that is what YOU are trying to do. You are fear mongering and pandering to unscientific nonsense with no evidence to back you up. Amanda Peet is on the side of reason, and is raising a fair and valid point: that you endanger lives which spread beyond your own children, and affect other parents, concerned parents who would (if they could) get their child vaccinated but can’t.
And that is just unfair. I don’t mind you killing your children, because if they die that is what you are doing and if I could I would charge every parent who fails to vaccinate their child with gross negligence…but that’s just me.
Yet still the stupidity continues…
“I don't know why boys are five times more likely to become autism, but they are.”
Probably, and I am just throwing this out there, because VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM.
Anyway I am sick of reading this sh*t, and I sincerely hope that the other MOMS on momslogic don’t take this seriously. But they will, they won’t do any research, and if they do they will just cherry pick poor studies to back up their paradigm. Because that’s what people do. We have to overcome the stupidity of the human mind, which is wonderful for some things (like seeing jesus in toast), but terrible at logical rational thought and especially dealing with statistics.
There has been a rise in autism, because the definition of autism has broadened to include less severe forms of the disability. Nothing more.
The current understanding is that there is a largely genetic basis for the disease, and for a proper review see here:

p.s. please get vaccinated!
